In Teyit, we provide the necessary financial resources by producing services, establishing collaborations, using national and international grants, and with your support to continue our activities, improve our human resources and maintain our service purchases.
As a non-profit social enterprise, we spend our budget on growing and increasing our social impact. We do not distribute our revenue to company partners in any way.
You can see below the revenues and expenses we have received since the day we were established.
From April 2016, when Teyit's first meeting was held, to December 2017, we received office space, lunch contributions, and mentorship support from Istasyon TEDU Center for Social Innovation. Under the consultancy and mentorship of Istasyon, we shaped the company's vision for the future, developed business models, and created team management and communication strategies.
With an application to EU Sivil Düşün Program entitled "publishing teyit.org website", we received ₺9.770,00 communication support. As a part of this, we built the teyit.org website, covered its six-month hosting expenses, published the Turkish translation of the Verification Handbook, and distributed the Verification Handbook free of charge to the non-governmental organizations and media organizations that requested it. Per the program rules, the budget was not transferred to Teyit and was spent on behalf of the Teyit by Sivil Düşün.
We received £48.052,00 for our the application entitled "Kriz anlarında doğrulanmış ve doğru haber için portal geliştirilmesi" (Developing portal for verified news during times of crisis) to the U.K. Ankara Embassy's Bilateral Programme Fund. The 5-month work that started in November 2016 and ended in March 2017 covered the salaries and insurance costs of two editors, expanses of business visits to London and Istanbul, development of the beta version of software named dubito, which facilitates the workflow of editors, and teyit.link, which archives webpages, and preparation of a guide for the training of educators.
We received €111.300,00 for an application to European Endowment for Democracy entitled “teyit.org - fact-checking study group." With 13 months of work between February 2017 and April 2018, Teyit's institutionalization costs, salaries and insurance costs of four editors, legal expenses, accounting costs, subscription to digital tools that facilitate fact-checking processes, visual and multimedia design costs, design and publication of an insight report titled “İnternette nelerden şüphe ediyoruz?” (What do we suspect on the Internet?), business model development, consulting expenses for social impact measurement, travel expenses to the Journalism Festival for two editors, and hosting and website maintenance expenses were covered.
Teyit launched a support campaign in February 2018 to reduce the share of funds in the budget and move to a structure where user support weighs. With monthly contributions on Patreon, in 2018, we received $4.517,00 support. We used this user support to cover Teyit's Ankara office. Thank you to all our supporters for their contribution.
Teyit signed a contract with Facebook in May 2018 and became Facebook's third-party news fact-checking organization in Turkey. As a part of this collaboration, Teyit flags false news on Facebook and redirects them to the analysis pieces published on the Teyit website, and Facebook restricts these posts' visibility for them to reach fewer users.
As a result of this collaboration, Teyit received $101.500,00. This revenue was spent on the salary, insurance, and premium expenses of both the existing team members and the new members, setting up a new office in Istanbul, covering the expenses of the new office, and production expenses that the video team in Istanbul needed.

We received ₺109.000,00 with an application to the Consulate of Sweden the Section for Turkish-Swedish Cooperation's Bilateral Cooperation Programme, entitled "Kutuplaşma karşısında bilgi aktivizmi" (Information activism in the face of polarization). As a part of the project, which started in March 2018 and continued until December 2019, we employed a project assistant and conducted a survey on media habits of the news consumers on the Internet. The findings of the study was reported in December 2018, with the title “Medya Kullanımı ve Haber Tüketimi: Güven, Doğrulama, Siyasi Kutuplaşmalar” (Media Use and News Consumption: Trust, Verification, Political Polarizations).
In December 2018, with the application for Communication Support to EU Sivil Düşün Program, we translated the report titled “Medya Kullanımı ve Haber Tüketimi: Güven, Doğrulama, Siyasi Kutuplaşmalar” into English and published one hundred copies each.
We received $39.545,67 with an application titled "Factory: Yanlış bilgiyle mücadele için inovasyon ve tasarım" (Factory: Innovation and design to fight misinformation) to the U.S. Embassy's Large Grant Program. As a part of the study, which started in September 2018 and lasted until June 2019, we organized design sprint events in Ankara and Istanbul to bring participants from different disciplines together and to produce new prototypes that could solve the misinformation problem. Designed for more actors to find solutions to the misinformation problem, Factory proposed 7 new solutions in 2019, with the final event in Ankara.
Teyit launched a support campaign in February 2018 to reduce the share of funds in the budget and move to a structure where user support weighs.
