In a video posted on social media, it was claimed that a storage room which had been captured by Turkish Armed Forces was being used as infirmary by People’s Protection Units (YPG). The video has been reported as news on some news portals such as Oda Tv, Hürriyet, Milliyet, Sabah, Yeni Akit and Haberler.com.
A video posted by a Facebook user on 24th January was reposted by approximately 11 thousands of users.
However, the claim regarding the storage room which had been indicated that it belonged to People’s Protection Units (YPG) is not true. The related video has been on the internet for a while along with several claims. It is possible to see that in early January some users uploaded this video claiming that there was black money in Red Cross parcels.
A Statement by Red Cross Regarding the Video on 18th January
After the video appeared on the internet on 18th January, Red Cross made a statement saying that the video had periodically been appearing on the internet for almost 2 years. Following their statement, they condemned the usage of their logo illegally while stating that the video does not have any relation regarding the claims.
It is possible to say that the black money issue in Red Cross parcels have created a turmoil worldwide because the money which is mentioned in the news is about Gaddafi’s treasure.
In a report published by United Nations’ Security Council on 1st June 2017, it can be seen that Gaddafi’s treasure has been moving freely around the world.
Fact-checker Antoine Krempf also indicates that it is not known where the footage was shooted but the video was used on the internet to assert some claims about the corruption in Brazil and United States’ money transfer to Haiti for encouraging the corruption. Besides, it is possible to see that the video was published claiming that it was shot in Nigeria and Syria.
To come to a conclusion, it is possible to say that the video was not shooted in Afrin, however, there is no certain evidence showing what happened to the money that is used in the video.
